DO
If you heart DC’s hottest public transportation option, the shiny, red Circulator, plan your outing around it. Hop on a bus and start your day by browsing the shops and gorgeous architecture of Union Station. While you’re in the area, pop into the National Postal Museum next door to admire an impressive collection of stamps and letters.

DO
Hop back on the bus and roll into Georgetown for some leisurely window shopping. Get off near the corner of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue and explore the side streets for historic homes, quaint shops and even the house where JFK lived before he became president.

EAT
While on Wisconsin, stop for some great pub fare at Martin’s Tavern, a DC institution. Martin’s is a favorite of Madeleine Albright, and dine in the booth where it’s rumored that JFK proposed to Jackie.

EAT
For a break, cozy up for coffee and snacks at Kafé Leopold and choose from an extensive menu of desserts and pastries.

STAY
Pop back on the Circulator and get off just after Washington Circle to check in to the Melrose Hotel. Well-appointed rooms, affordable rates and a great location between Georgetown and the White House—and a Circulator stop right at its door—keep this hotel busy year-round with international visitors.
