Degas/Cassatt at the National Gallery of Art – Ends October 5
American Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) and Frenchman Edgar Degas (1834-1917) were luminaries in Impressionism, the artistic movement in which inspiration came from modern life and the human figure. The two became close friends, and remained so for forty years, continually influencing each other’s work. The National Gallery of Art has brought their work together into one stirring exhibit, showing how powerful a connection built through art can be.
Sightseeing Cruises & George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill at Mount Vernon – Ends October 31
See George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate from a unique perspective on a sightseeing cruise only available through the fall. Take a stroll down to the Wharf (or hop on a shuttle) and waterscapes along the Potomac on a 45-minute expedition. Also shutting its doors come the end of October are Washington’s distillery and gristmill.
