Job Description The Marketing and Communications Associate is responsible for increasing the profile, outreach, and exposure of the National Building Museum through public and media relations, event and exhibition promotion, online media, community and partner relations, strategic marketing, and the production of various publications.

The Associate will work closely with the media to generate publicity, respond to external inquires, and increase awareness of the Museum’s activities through media coverage. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of media relations principles including planning, analysis, and positioning as well as experience with new media and online marketing. The Associate will also be responsible for developing and managing marketing efforts including the oversight of publications, direct mail, advertising, event promotions, and communications. The Associate will work closely with designers, printers and other partners, and be capable of working collaboratively on multiple projects with many stakeholders on tight deadlines and budgets. He/she will have an appreciation of working in a highly detail-oriented capacity within a wider detail-driven environment. Strong project management skills are imperative.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will demonstrate at least two years of experience in both public/media relations and traditional marketing. Expertise with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint are required. Some online publishing and social media experience including use of Adobe design products is also required. Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related degree.

Job Description The National Sales Manager position is responsible for developing business for the Walter E Washington Convention Center and metropolitan area as a convention destination with specific reference to groups that utilize over 3,000 peak rooms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Generate bookings for meetings and conventions according to the priorities outlined in the marketing plan or more specifically meet certain market segment factors.
2. Coordinate and participate in local promotional events and local industry trade shows with a view towards developing Washington, DC business interests.
3. Produce sales leads for destination hotel partners.
4. Follows up on lead sources by inquiry, through trade shows and trade publications.
5. Converts leads into confirmed business; prepares proposals including quoted costs at the Washington Convention Center as well as executing and overseeing client site inspections.
6. Assist the direct sales effort by attending sales missions, meetings, trade shows and other industry-related functions.
7. Maintain good product knowledge of the destination including the area (attractions, recreation, climate, etc.), convention center, hotels and services.
8. Maintains awareness of industry trends and competing cities (ie. through trade journals, industry participation and travel)
9. Manage client relationships to ensure adequate account servicing.
10. Execute all other duties as assigned by the Director of Sales and Sr. Vice-President of Convention Sales & Services.
Qualifications: Experience, Competencies, and Education:
1. Minimum four to five (4 - 5) years sales management experience in related field, preferably convention bureau, facility or hotel sales and convention services
2. Bachelor's Degree (B.S./B.A.) from four-year college or university in management, sales, marketing or related field.
3. Ability to read, analyze, articulate and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures.
4. Excellent communication skills.
5. Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
6. Willingness to work evenings and weekends;
7. Willingness to travel
8. Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for city and facilities

A Conference Services Manager is responsible to coordinate Destination DC and subscriber servicing of convention groups that have selected Washington, DC as a future destination.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Contact meeting planners to introduce the services of Destination DC and offer assistance, to include solicitation of registration services, housing services and publication sales.
2. Coordinate site inspection visits to hotels and facilities, after the decision to meet in Washington is definite and entertain these clients for a proper public relations image and to acquaint them with the city.
3. Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the services provided by Destination DC including registration, housing, promotional materials and media information.

8. Attend weekly convention sales staff meeting and the monthly convention services staff meeting.
9. Accompany Director of Convention Services to meetings with convention services staff of key hotel services staff.
10. As required, handle telephone service inquiries from clients.
11. Distribute Services Leads requests to subscribers in membership database and convention sales database.
12. Prepare correspondence, memos to convention files and sales leads and distribute as appropriate.
13. Prepare special reports and forms and distribute as appropriate.
14. Greet guests of the Convention Sales and Services Departments.
15. Handle requests for group pickup histories.
16. Coordinate mailing of Convention Services Introduction letters.
17. Maintain a report of daily servicing activities through notes to file/action codes in D3.
18. Keep abreast of local activities taking place in the area to assist clients with servicing.
19. Verify room blocks for definite groups.
20. Attend your clients' pre-convention and post-convention meetings.
21. Visit your clients' daily at their meeting location to ensure that everything is running smoothly during their convention.
22. Send and collect post-convention surveys to meeting planners after their show has met in DC.
23. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Convention Services.

Volunteer Travelers Aid Washington Part Time 3 Month(s) ago

Job Description Travelers Aid seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts at its Information Booth at Union Station. Volunteers work under the supervision of professional staff and receive extensive training prior to beginning face-to-face contact. Volunteers work in pairs. They answer questions from travelers, assisting them with information and directions within Union Station, ground transportation, Metro, lodging, tourist activities, etc. Volunteers hand out maps and brochures as appropriate. Volunteers access language translation services (by telephone) for non-English speaking visitors. Volunteers contact Travelers Aid's Director of Social Services when certain passengers require an added level of help.
Qualifications: Must be enthusiastic and passionate about helping others face-to-face and welcoming visitors to our nation's capital. Train enthusiasts especially welcome. Must be quick-thinking and resourceful in creatively solving travelers' problems. Must be willing to follow established protocols and work courteously with customers and other volunteers.
