What’s a Smithsonian adventure without a little monkey business? Monkeys make mischief throughout the movie, including Able, the space travel pioneer, and Dexter, who starred in the first film. If you want to get a glimpse at some real animals, head over to the National Zoo, where you’ll find plenty of primates, including Gibbons, Gorillas and Howler Monkeys, plus pandas, cheetahs and even a kid-sized farm. http://natzoo.si.edu
Behind the Scenes Secret: Able, a Rhesus Monkey, and Miss Baker, a Squirrel Monkey, were sent to space by NASA in
1959. Upon his passing, Able was preserved and found a new home at the National Air and Space Museum.
