MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

Graphic Designer: The Graphic Designer is directly responsible for developing web and print-based graphic design project work as required by Destination DC to reach its goals and to fulfill its mission as the destination marketing organization for the nation’s capitol. Create clean designs, concepts, and layouts based on knowledge of design principles and esthetic concepts, in alignment with the positioning of Washington, DC as a premier destination. Synthesize input from a number of different sources into a distinctive image based on market research and feedback. Conceive and execute design concepts. Determine size, scale and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size of type. Knowledge of paper styles, colors and printing processes.

Communications Specialist: Work productively and creatively in fast-paced marketing and communications department to support and position Washington, DC as a premier, global destination. Successfully research, draft, update and edit marketing and communications materials including: DC Update, Destination DC's bi-monthly newsletter, Press Releases, E-newsletters to various Destination DC audiences, develop content for custom websites for conventions meeting in Washington, DC, and more.

PARTNERSHIPS & ALLIANCES

Partnerships and Alliances Coordinator: The Partnerships Coordinator provides tactical and logistical support to the VP of Partnerships and the Partnerships department. This portfolio executes all the operational and administrative functions relating to partnership recruitment and retention.

CONVENTION SALES:

Lead Generation Associate (Telemarketer): Represents the company with customers and prospects by soliciting new business and qualifying leads relative to the following criteria: budget, meeting needs, and meeting dates. The telemarketer is required to generate volume outbound call efforts. Extensive follow up and tracking of leads to opportunities will be an important aspect of this role.

Conference Sales Manager: Responsibility to market and promote the metropolitan Washington area as a convention destination to groups utilizing 300 rooms peak or less.

Convention Sales Manager: The Convention Sales Manager is responsible for developing business for the Washington, DC metropolitan area as a convention destination; this includes in-house and convention center business.

Convention Sales Assistant: A Convention Sales Assistant is responsible for assisting the Convention Sales Staff in planning and administering sales policies and programs to foster and promote hotel patronage of all Capital area hotels through the various Destination DC sales programs.


INTERNSHIPS:
Destination DC invites qualified students to participate in a rich educational experience in hospitality marketing and management.

  • Expand classroom learning into applied learning in a controlled professional environment.
  • Partnership of student, organization mentor, Destination DC Human Resources Personnel and college internship coordinator.
  • Emphasis on insightful cross-functional learning experience.
  • Target 30 hours per week for summer and/or 8-10 hours per week per semester. Depending upon the nature of the internship assignment, the student may opt for a 1- or 2-credit hour internship experience (40-50 hours of work = 1 credit hour).
  • Junior class standing (or above) and 3.0 GPA recommended; 2.5 GPA required.
  • Internship experiences may involve work in any community, depending upon the ability of the student to commute to the internship site.
  • Regular monthly progress reports are available if required by school.
  • The student will be evaluated using normal letter grades. The evaluation will be based on student performance assessments, monthly progress reports and the final written report.
  • The mentor organization's priorities and business practice determine the project scope and resources, information access and confidentiality.
