Think DC rolls up the carpet at the end of the working day? Think again. Nightlife fun-seekers will find plenty of ways to pass the time in the nation's capital - and journalists looking for a different DC angle won't be disappointed.

From themed bars and luxe lounges to local music and sporting events, the District is not just powerful - it's powerfully entertaining. Here are a few story ideas about the DC scene:

Lounging in the City: New lounges with plush couches, smooth music and cool cocktails are popping up all over the District, and many of them are located right along K Street, in the heart of DC's business district.

Themed Bars Make for Interesting Nights in the District: You won't just find your run-of-the-mill watering holes in DC. The city's power-players by day are movers and shakers by night, thanks to new themed nightlife venues that offer bar-hoppers and club-goers an experience - not just a drink or two. For an "airbourne" adventure, head to Fly. Or, try Showbar's Palace of Wonders for a carnival sideshow experience, complete with shrunken heads and burlesque dancers.

DC's Local Music Scene: DC has a local music vibe all its own, and the city has helped notables like Chuck Brown, Duke Ellington, Shirley Horne, Roberta Flack and Thievery Corporation get their starts. From bluegrass and jazz to go-go and indie rock, there's a performance to fit the likes of any visitor.

Sporting Events: DC's sports scene booms with activity year-round. It's no surprise, considering the fact that the District plays home to eight professional sports teams and a range of Division I collegiate athletics. Sports enthusiasts traveling to DC can even plan to cheer on more than one team in a weekend.

Theatre & Performing Arts: While classic theatre and Shakespeare's master works regularly find themselves in the spotlight of the DC theatre scene, that's just part of it. Get the rest of the story at edgy, off-beat theatre companies like Woolly Mammoth, Studio Theatre and Signature Theatre, whose productions are designed to amuse, embarrass and above all, evoke a response.
