Local Businesses Propose More Love in February with Date Nights DC Deals Nearly 50 outlets offer deals, discounts to inspire romance throughout February
Destination DC encourages Washingtonians and visitors to turn off their Kindles and rekindle their romantic relationships throughout the month of February. Date Nights DC is a city-wide promotion aimed at engaging romantic couples, friends, and singletons with the capital’s romantic side. Hotels, restaurants, museums, theatres and attractions have created unique date ideas inspired by Valentine’s Day but available throughout the month of February.
Here are a few examples of Date Nights DC’s dozens of unique deals and discounts:
Hotel Hideaways A number of notable hotels have designed packages to inspire romance. The Fairmont Washington, D.C. has created the “An Affair to Remember Package,” a nod to the Cary Grant-Deborah Kerr classic. Couples will enjoy a suite, a $100 credit for “dinner in bed” and a keepsake copy of the DVD. Three of the city’s Kimpton Hotels: Hotel Monaco, DC; Hotel Helix and Palomar Hotel, DC serve up a “Robe-Mantic Retreat.” Their package includes overnight accommodations; two of Kimpton’s signature animal-print bathrobes and a $25 credit for in-room dining or the bar.
Among the hotels also offering unique Date Nights deals: Beacon Hotel and Suites; Capitol Hill Suites; Carlyle Suites; The Churchill; Comfort Inn & Suites near Union Station; Hilton Washington; Holiday Inn Washington – Capitol; The Liaison Capitol Hill; The Melrose Hotel; Park Hyatt Washington; Ritz Carlton; St. Gregory Hotel
Playful Partnerships Move over dinner-and-a-movie! Three local theatres are raising the curtain with an evening’s entertainment. Ford’s Theatre and Bistro d’Oc present “A Girl’s Night Out.” On Feb. 2, patrons who catch Horton Foote’s family drama, “The Carpetbagger’s Children” receive entry to a VIP post-performance dessert reception at the neighboring bistro. Woolly Mammoth offers 25% off tickets to “Oedipus el Rey” and a free “Amor Ponche” cocktail at Oyamel after the show – just present your ticket stub. Across the Potomac in Arlington, VA, Signature Theatre’s deal spotlights 20% off two tickets for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Sunset Boulevard” with a complimentary appetizer or dessert for two at Ali’s Bar. This show-stopping deal runs Feb. 1-13, 2011.
Some of the other museums and attractions presenting Date Nights DC offers include: Arena Stage; Dance Place; International Spy Museum; Madame Tussauds; National Museum of Women in the Arts; the Newseum; Presidents Lincoln’s Cottage; Washington Auto Show
Movers and Shakers Options abound for active couples and groups of friends. Terrapin Adventures gets hearts racing with a “Valentine’s Day Romantic Adventure.” The two-hour session on the outdoor high ropes course and climbing tower has a sweet finish: hot chocolate and Hershey Kisses (costs $59.95 per couple). Come sundown, City Segway Tours boast a “Segway Date Night” with discounts on all 6pm tours of the monuments for $55 per person. And for those who prefer to take a spin around a dance floor, head to Dance Place on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8pm for their traditional “Valentine’s Day Dance” featuring SpeakEasy, a romantically-themed storytelling showcase, and sets from DJ Glowstik. Admission, normally $15, is two-for-one when the Date Nights DC discount is requested.
Food of Love Among the area restaurants that have set their tables – and their sights – on Date Nights DC is Cuba Libre. This spicy newcomer has dreamed up the “Everlasting Lovers’ Brunch” ($30 per diner) inviting weekend diners to an unlimited number of small plates between 11:30am-3pm. The sensual tasting menu incorporates known aphrodisiacs including blood orange, truffles and avocados. Georgetown favorite pan-Asian retreat, Mie N Yu will offer a three-course tasting menu paired with Champagne ($49 per person). Not all menus are fit for lovers: the Brit-wits at Againn will serve a three-course prix fixe “Anti-Valentine’s Day” menu ($39 per person not including tax and tip) available Feb. 11-19, 2011.
