TIPS AND UPDATES

Textile Museum Announces Second Location
The Textile Museum is branching out, adding a second location in DC's lively downtown Penn Quarter arts and entertainment district this spring. The new addition nearly doubles the unique neighborhood museum's overall space and dramatically increases its exhibition space. In its new, 23,400 sq-ft. space, located at 421 7th St. NW, the museum will offer educational activities and exhibitions. The museum will continue to operate its original location at 2320 S St. NW, where textile aficionados can see the museum's permanent collection and utilize its renowned research library.

Take a Jog, Make a Statement or Place a Call on New DC Tours
New tour options are popping up throughout the city, designed for fitness fiends, politicos and visitors on the go.

Runners can join a knowledgeable local for a jog past the city's most famous sites with a new tour from DC Run. The one-on-one tours are tailored to each participant's speed and preferred sites, on the Mall or in the neighborhoods. Runners receive a special water bottle and goodie bags with run-friendly treats, plus insider's tips from knowledgeable guides. Ask your guide for restaurant picks, great date spots and hip nightspots. Tours are $60 for the first six miles and $6 per mile for each additional mile.

For a politics-inspired spin around the city, hop into an electronic roadster and take in the sites with the Bi-Partisan Tour Company. The red and blue vehicles come equipped with GPS systems to guide you through the city, along with two different horns, letting you honk to show your party loyalty. You can also put on a rubber mask bearing the likeness of political notables as you listen to political narration. Tours are $78 per person ($39 for riders under age 22; drivers must be at least 22 years old).

Mobile Tours recently launched a free mobile phone tour of the nation's capital. Visitors can dial eleven separate toll-free numbers to learn more about DC's most famous sights. Beyond the basic facts and figures, the two-to-three minute tour segments include personal interviews and anecdotes from real people who witnessed major historical events. The tours can also be downloaded onto MP3 players for easy access.

Library of Congress Launches New Visitor Experience
There’s a new experience in store for visitors to the Library of Congress this spring, which debuts a suite of high-tech, interactive kiosks and immersive experiences in April. The beautiful building’s front doors will once again be open to the public, and, true to its legacy, the Library will once again display an installation of actual books taken from Thomas Jefferson’s library, the seed of its expansive collection. The Library is also opening two new long-term exhibitions, focusing on “The Early Americas” and “Creating the United States.” The Library’s new experience opens to visitors in April 2008.
