Mount Vernon Historic Mount Vernon welcomes inauguration visitors in January with 20% off adult admission. Visitors must print the coupon from Mount Vernon's website, visit.mountvernon.org. Take the oath of office in the new interactive Inaugural Gallery, one of 25 new galleries and theaters, see the nation's very first Inaugural buttons worn by supporters of George Washington, and tour an exhibition of the finest collection of presidential china outside of the White House. "Setting the President's Table: American Presidential China" from the Philadelphia Museum of Art is open through January 21. January is also the 250th wedding anniversary of George and Martha Washington, and on display this month only are Mrs. Washington's wedding slippers, which have not been exhibited at Mount Vernon in over 30 years and due to their fragile condition will not be on display for many years to come.
National Archives News coverage (likely to include the swearing-in and the parade) will be shown live in the William G. McGowan Theater on Jan. 20 from 11:30 AM-5 PM. Seating is first-come, first-serve, and visitors should enter through the 9th St. and Constitution Ave. entrance. The Archives is also presenting a special inauguration exhibition, Taking the Oath, in the East Rotunda from Jan. 12-25. National Museum of the American Indian The museum will celebrate the inauguration with a three-day multicultural festival, "Out of Many: A Multicultural Festival of Music, Dance, and Story," Jan. 17-19, featuring performances from more than 40 groups. National Museum of Crime & Punishment Guests can view the inauguration on Jan. 20 in the museum's America's Most Wanted studio. The museum will also launch a crime-solving adventure with cipher decoding, high-speed chases and shoot-outs. Hours will be extend Sat.-Tues. (Jan 17-20), opening at 9 AM and closing at 8 PM. The Phillips Collection For the entire month of January, visitors who say the word “inauguration” at the admissions desk when purchasing their tickets will receive two-for-one admission for both the permanent collection and the special exhibition, Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Over the River, a Work in Progress until it closes on Jan. 25. Guests can also view a special installation of Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series and a special exhibition, The Eight: Rebels for American Art. President Lincoln's Cottage Lincoln's historic retreat will offer special private tours on the eve of the Inauguration.
Tudor Place Though usually closed in January, Tudor Place will be open Jan. 17-21 with a special presidential exhibition. US National Arboretum Visitors can see the original columns from the East Portico of the U.S. Capitol, in front of which Abraham Lincoln took the oath of office. Woodrow Wilson House Museum DC's only presidential house museum extends its exhibiton, The Presidential Dish: Mrs. Woodrow Wilson and the White House China Room, through Jan. 25.
