The EVE Project
Martha Graham is inarguably the mother of American modern dance. One of the greatest artists of the 20th century, she forever altered the fabric of dance by creating an entirely new style of movement. She made a lasting impact as a groundbreaking choreographer, influencing generations of artists including Merce Cunningham and Paul Taylor. Today, the Martha Graham Dance Company exemplifies all she stood for and keeps her spirit of ingenuity alive by showcasing Graham masterpieces and new works inspired by her legacy.
In celebration of the centennial of the 19th amendment in 2020, which gave women the right to vote, the company has created The EVE Projecta collection of new commissions and signature Graham classics that each make bold statements about female power. For this engagement, the company performs repertory that includes Martha Grahams Diversion of Angels, Ekstasis, and Chronicle. New choreography will be featured in Untitled (Souvenir) by Pam Tanowitz, whose work graced our spring 2018 DEMO show, and Lamentation Variations by Aszure Barton, Liz Gerring, and Michelle Dorrance, who each riff on Grahams iconic solo of the same name.
