National Museum of Civil War Medicine

The premier center for the preservation and research of the legacy of Civil War medical innovation, the NMCWM endeavors to tell the story of the surgeons, nurses and other caregivers who strove to heal the wounds of war as well as the stories of the patients who benefited from their dedication. Exhibits and artifacts devoted to the technological and procedural advances made in the medical field from 1861 to 1865 are on display at two historic locations. Interactive educational programs, exhibits, seminars and lectures provide the knowledge that Civil War medicine connects us not only to our past, but is the scientific and historical link to our present and our future. The Letterman Institute, a division of the NMCWM offers customized historically-based experiential leadership development programs.
