February 1, 2012

Romantic weekends and amorous adventures in Washington, DC are about to become more affordable as Destination DC, the city’s official convention and tourism corporation, announces the return of Date Nights DC (, a program that promotes romantic experiences throughout February.

This year Destination DC is hooking up with LivingSocial, the online and mobile source for great values. This is the first time Destination DC has partnered with the DC-based company and the first time LivingSocial has cooperated on a month-long campaign with a destination management company.

Date Nights DC with LivingSocial will spotlight unique offers through LivingSocial’s Escapes, Instant Escapes and Adventures products.  LivingSocial members throughout greater Washington, DC will receive emails spotlighting these offers.

“Our approach to marketing Date Nights DC has expanded this year by working with LivingSocial to identify potential customers in the greater Washington, DC region and beyond,” said Elliott Ferguson, president and CEO, Destination DC. “The District was recently heralded as one of the best cities to find a date in 2012 by The Daily Beast, so with this promotion, we expect to reach a lot of our target market while showcasing the variety of experiences Washington, DC offers for couples and singles alike.”

From January 30 through February 6, LivingSocial’s Escapes will feature exclusive hotel packages with four Washington, DC hotels. The unique hotel packages offer an average savings of 50 percent and include The Fairfax at Embassy Row, The Jefferson, The Embassy Row Hotel and Hilton Garden Inn – US Capitol hotels.

“LivingSocial helps people discover the best of their neighborhood and the places they travel, making Date Nights DC an ideal partner for our members” said Dave Madden, general manager, LivingSocial Escapes.  “The unique offers and packages we’ve put together are perfect for Washingtonians looking for fun and romantic date ideas right in their own backyard.”

Destination DC’s dedicated Date Nights DC website will also connect consumers with additional member discounts, hotel packages, and traditional Date Nights DC resources:

Create-a-Date:  A searchable database of 100-plus creative date ideas to help locals and visitors plan outings with a significant other, family, or just the girl or guy. Organized by theme and neighborhoods, date planners will find LGBT-centered dates; activities for singletons; movie-themed dates; itineraries for politics buffs or food and wine lovers; and wild card suggestions for fans of “Glee,” Lady Gaga, and more.

Date Night Deals: Nearly 50 events and offers from hotels, restaurants, theatres, tours, and attractions for “date-friendly” experiences. The International Spy Museum is offering a “Love a Spy” package, including admission to the museum and its evening “Spy at Night” program, plus $30 to purchase gift shop goodies.

The luxe Fairmont Washington, D.C. Hotel sweetens your stay with their “Bee My Honey” package, which includes two love potion “BeeTini” cocktails made with their own rooftop honey and a three-course, honey-inspired dinner for two at Juniper Restaurant.

The Newseum’s “Will You Be My Running Mate?” promotion takes a cue from the campaign buzz and increases your popularity vote with buy-one-get-one-free tickets. Action-seekers can enjoy a discount on the ropes course at Terrapin Adventures while romantics can spend an evening chauffeured around town by ultra-sleek ExecuCar.

Deals and discounts are offered by area performing arts venues, such as Arena Stage, Ford’s Theatre, Woolly Mammoth, Shakespeare Theatre Company and The Kennedy Center.

Other Destination DC highlights for the month include:

Postings & Rankings: A place where couples who met, courted, and married in DC can upload and share videos chronicling their relationships. The site also includes a list of 28 of DC’s top romantic spots.

Date Concierge: Access to Destination DC’s team of hospitality experts offering free assistance in booking and planning memorable dates. Live Facebook chats take place on January 31, February 7, and February 14 at noon EST.

The promotion also encourages date-planners to take advantage of special events and performances that are already on DC’s February calendar. Sample date itineraries are built around the like of the Washington DC International Wine and Food Festival (Feb. 11-12) and the highly-anticipated exhibition, “Snapshot: Painters and Photography” which opens at the Phillips Collection on February 4, even the “S’more-melier” at the Ritz Carlton Georgetown.
