Destination DC Promotes Media and Tourism Veteran as new Vice President of Marketing & Communications

Robin A. McClain Brings More Than 20 Years of Professional Experience in Marketing, Communications and Journalism to Her New Role.

(Washington, DC) … Destination DC president and CEO, Elliott L. Ferguson, has appointed Robin A. McClain as the new Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the official tourism and marketing office for the nation’s capital.  A seasoned travel marketing professional, McClain has led the marketing team over the last six months as the Interim Vice President of Marketing and Communications. In May 2011, McClain joined Destination DC as the Director of Communications, after moving from Los Angeles where she worked for LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau (now LA Tourism) for several years as the Senior Director of Media Relations. 

“Robin brings a proven ability to lead with insight and enthusiasm, manage a variety of marketing initiatives well and generate comprehensive interest in Washington, DC through both advertising and editorial efforts,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, President and CEO of Destination DC.  “I believe the breadth of experience in her background as a marketing strategist, communications professional and journalist will help Destination DC grow its brand and generate more interest in the nation’s capital as a top leisure and convention destination.”

In her role as Director of Communications at Destination DC, McClain has been instrumental in gaining publicity about the changing landscape of Washington, DC as a leisure and convention destination, highlighting the $8.5 billion worth of development currently underway in the city and the $4.8 billion economic impact of tourism on the District.  A Washington Metropolitan native, originally from Gaithersburg, MD, McClain graduated from the University of Maryland and began her broadcast journalism career locally at WTTG FOX 5.  She went on to work as a news reporter in Salt Lake City, UT at KSTU FOX 13 and in Phoenix, AZ at KNXV ABC 15.

“I am excited to continue telling the amazing story about Washington, DC as a destination and the unique experiences it offers visitors,” McClain said.  “Destination DC has a great team of people and partners throughout the city and I look forward to continue working comprehensively and creatively with them to promote visitation to the District.”

McClain, begins her new role immediately and will oversee the marketing and communications team, a staff of twelve.  Immediate priorities include leveraging the just launched summer advertising campaign which features new creative and discounts up to 25% off at hotels and attractions throughout the District and expanding convention trade advertising and editorial opportunities.
