A morning run in Rock Creek Park
Rock Creek Park is a sprawling but hidden gem in DC. Twice the size of NYC’s Central Park, Rock Creek is managed by the National Park Service and includes a rustic expanse of 1,754 acres. Miles of beautiful trails for walking, jogging and cycling are accompanied by Pierce Mill, the Art Barn gallery, nature center, horse-back riding stables, tennis courts and golf course, 30 picnic areas and the Carter Barron Amphitheatre that hosts the annual Shakespeare Free for All.

Flying kites on the National Mall
Every March the Smithsonian Kite Festival draws hundreds of kite-flyers to the National Mall, but any day is a great day to fly a kite on America’s front yard. The Washington Monument stands at the center of the Mall, with amazing views of the Capitol building to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the left.

The last-second shot at a Wizards game
Head to the Verizon Center in the buzzing Penn Quarter area of downtown to take in a Wizards basketball game. You’ll find star power on the court and on the sidelines with players like Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler – and fans including political figures like James Carville.

Masterful moments with the Shakespeare Theatre Company
Just across F Street from the Verizon Center another sort of drama unfolds with the Shakespeare Theatre Company at the Harman Center for the Arts. The nation’s foremost Shakespeare Company is under the direction of Michael Kahn and produces amazingly sharp performances of classics through an imaginative contemporary lens. Think “Love’s Labor’s Lost” set in a 1960s ashram or a modern-day “The Taming of the Shrew” with paparazzi and slick advertising billboards.

Bike the Sites
That 2.2 miles between the Capitol building and Lincoln Memorial can be a little daunting, not to mention adding on the sweep of the Tidal Basin to catch the Jefferson and FDR memorials. Make the most out of your time in DC and Bike the Sites. Rent bikes by the hour or sign on for a fun professionally-guided tour of the sites by day or by night.
