Your privacy is important to Destination DC, and we will treat any of your information with care.Our Privacy Statement lets you know how we handle personally identifiable information you share with us through our digital and printed communication vehicles.

II. Privacy Statement (“Privacy Statement”)



Destination DC collects visitor information to help us to serve you better. We respect your privacy and are committed to maintaining and using this information responsibly. This Privacy Statement explains how we collect and handle personally identifiable information you share with Destination DC through our web site and promotional emails.  It also describes our use of cookies and other tracking devices. It provides instruction regarding links to other web sites, security of the information you provide and potential changes to the Privacy Statement. By visiting any of our websites, or providing your information to us, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Statement.


Personal Information Collection

Any personal information you provide to us is maintained on Destination DC’s secure servers and our internal systems. We collect information when you register online or update your account, log-in, place an order, communicate online with our customer service representatives, opt-in to receive our emails, shop online, participate in a sweepstakes, contests, promotions or surveys, or join our social networking sites. We may also collect information from other marketing material. This information may include, but is not limited to, your contact information (for example, your first and last name, email address, billing and shipping addresses and phone number) and billing information (such as credit card number, cardholder name, and expiration date).  We may also request information about your hotel room preferences, and frequent flyer, hotel award program and car rental program information. You can choose not to provide information to us, but in general most of the information we request from you is required in order for you reserve a hotel; register as a member; book travel; complete a traveler profile; participate in a survey, contest, or sweepstakes; ask us a question; or initiate other transactions on our site.


Travel Companion Information

When you make a reservation for someone else through this website, we will request personal information and travel preferences about that individual. You should obtain the consent of other individuals prior to providing us with their personal information and travel preferences, as any access to view or change their information will be available only through your account.


Personal Information Uses

We use sensitive billing information (such as cardholder name, credit card number, and expiration date) for the purpose of completing the hotel reservations you make on our site. We use other information about you for the following general purposes: to provide you with the products and services you request; to provide you with your hotel booking confirmation and updates; to manage your account, including processing bills and providing travel notifications; to communicate with you in general; to respond to your questions and comments; to measure interest in and improve our products, services, and website;to assist with marketing research; to notify you about special offers and products or services that may be of interest to you; to otherwise customize your experience with this website; to reward you as part of any reward and recognition program you choose to join; to solicit information from you, including through surveys; to resolve disputes, collect fees, or troubleshoot problems; to prevent potentially prohibited or illegal activities; to enforce our terms of use; and as otherwise described to you at the point of collection.


With respect to sharing personal information with authorized, membership partners: We sometimes offer information or services on behalf of partners within a solicitation. We endeavor to make clear and apparent when corporate partner offers are combined with Destination DC offers. In such cases, the information you provide is shared with our partners and is subject to use within that company’s privacy policy. Note: Destination DC’spartners, as referenced here, would include companies wishing to offer products or services to Washington DC visitors, but not necessarily Washington, DC-based companies. Examples could include financial, lodging or transportation firms.  Destination DC will not share your personal information with non-partners for their independent use without your permission. We may disclose your personal information as required by law, in conjunction with a government inquiry, or in litigation or dispute resolution.


Cookies and Other Tracking Devices

Cookies are small data files that are automatically stored on your computer when you visit our websites. Cookies are used to track the pages of the websites you’ve visited and do not retain any personally identifiable information such as your name, address or any financialinformation. We may use cookies and other tracking devices on our web sites to allow us to measure site activity in aggregate, not on the individual level. This in turn allows us to provide a better user experience. Only information you voluntarily provide is stored in your customer file.

Google AdWords

Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our web sites. Google’s use of the DART cookieenables it to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our web sites and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting Google ad and content network privacy policy.


These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to display relevant advertisements on our web sites. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs.  Other technologies (such as cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons) may also be used by the third-party ad networks to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see.  Destination DC has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information on their practices as well as for instructions about how to opt-out of certain practices.  Destination DC’s Privacy Statement does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, such other advertisers or web sites.


Facebook® Connect

Destination DC provides its users with the ability to create a new account, or sign-in to an existing account using their Facebook credentials – rather than having to establish a separate, Destination DC username and password. If you choose to use Facebook Connect to sign in to Destination DC, the first time you select this option you will be prompted by Facebook to allow Destination DC the privilege of being able to post content to your Facebook Wall and to your friends’ News Feeds. Facebook will also ask if you want to allow Destination DC access to your email address. Accepting both of these requests allows you to use your Facebook credentials to access Destination DC, and also signals your acceptance of Destination DC’sTerms of Service. If you choose to revoke these privileges from Destination DC, you can do so at any time by accessing the Applications Settings under the Account menu in Facebook.


Links to Outside Web Sites

This site may contain links to third party sites not controlled by Destination DC, which therefore are not covered by this Privacy Statement, such as those belonging to Destination DC partners and sponsors. We recommend that you check the privacy statement of other sites you visit before providing any personal information.


Security of Information

Destination DC recognizes the importance of safeguarding personal information in our possession from theft, inappropriate use, or improper distribution. It should, however, be recognized that no company can perfectly protect personal information.


Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance 

We are in compliance with the requirements of COPPA (Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act), we do not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. Our website, products and services are all directed to people who are at least 13 years old or older.
