It's All About Access: Many museums and attractions welcome groups after hours for private events and access. Call the attraction you're interested in to inquire. Check with your congressional representative or senator to arrange guided tours of the Capitol and White House. Arrange a tour of the State Department's diplomatic reception rooms - home to one of the finest collection of early American furnishings and treasures. Embassies and private homes are often available for event rental, adding a touch of Washington grandeur to any social function. Taste the Finest: Schedule a dinner at one of the city's most acclaimed eateries. At the Mandarin Oriental, Executive Chef Eric Ziebold (formerly of The French Laundry) tantalizes diners with modern American cuisine at CityZen, recognized as one of the "Hottest Restaurants in the World" by Food & Wine. At Georgetown's Michel Richard Citronelle, award-winning cuisine by Chef Michel Richard is an indulgent culinary escape. In Penn Quarter, Le Paradou, Executive Chef and co-proprietor Yannick Cam tantalizes foodies with some of the city's finest French fare.

Standing Ovations: If you're not enjoying a decadent evening meal, try a night at the theatre. Broadway shows, operatic and symphonic productions and thought-provoking plays are consistently on the menu at The Kennedy Center. Catch a classic play at Washington, DC's critically-acclaimed Shakespeare Theatre Company or sample something different at the edgy Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Arena Stage or Studio Theatre. Catering to sports fans? The city's professional sports teams may also be able to accommodate your VIPs.

Touring the White House: Contact your Representative or Senator at least two months before you arrive. International visitors should contact their embassies.

Book in advance: Reserve tickets for attractions like the Washington Monument, Spy Museum, Bureau of Engraving and Printing and Holocaust Memorial Museum in advance.

Budget tips: You'll generally find the best hotel rates on weekends and in late summer and winter.

Tour at "off-peak" hours. Check for special early hours or late hours at select museums, or check out the monuments at dawn or dusk.

Great views: Ride to the top of the tower at the Old Post Office Pavilion or cross the Potomac River to the U.S. Marines Memorial (Iwo Jima). The Frederick Douglass House in Anacostia also boasts a great view.
