NMWA Nights—September

Kick-off of series of after-hours museum events

Sep 16, 2026. 5:30–8 p.m.

Wednesday, September 16, 5:30–8 p.m.

A new season of NMWA Nights kicks off with an exclusive look at Routed West: Twentieth-Century African American Quilts in California, an exhibition celebrating quilts as powerful expressions of identity, tradition, resilience, and community. Participants will take part in an interactive postcard quilt and hear directly from several artists featured in the show.

The works in this exhibition demonstrate inherited skills rooted in self-sufficiency, community care, and dreams of a liberated future. Participate in a spotlight tour with exhibition artists Ora Clay, Stacey Carter, and William Rhodes, who will share insights into their practices. Enjoy a pop-up workshop hosted by Vanessa Villarreal, a mixed-media assemblage artist who works primarily with denim scraps, second-hand materials, and acrylic paint in her quilt making practice. Experience intergenerational knowledge sharing through an interactive postcard quilt, inviting you to reflect on your values and explore how they came to be.

Ticket includes two drinks; additional drinks for purchase. $25 general; $22 seniors/students; $20 members. Free for Explorer Members ($180+) and above. Reservations required; tickets go on sale on September 2.
