Alex Gnafakis Joins Destination DC as Creative Director

(Washington, DC) – Destination DC (DDC) today announced that Alex Gnafakis has joined the organization as its new creative director. In her role, Gnafakis will execute the brand strategy and integrated marketing efforts to fulfill DDC’s mission to drive business and leisure travel to the nation’s capital as the official destination marketing organization for the District of Columbia.

Passionate about videography and photography, Gnafakis will oversee those areas for DDC as well as all of its creative assets, including advertising creative, official publications, newsletters and marketing collateral. She is a member of the organization’s senior leadership team.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the team as we approach a year of major opportunity ahead,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, president and CEO, Destination DC. “Alex will build on the strength of our brand as Washington, DC readies to host visitors for inauguration, tour operators for U.S. Travel Association’s IPW and conventioneers including Microsoft.”

Prior to joining DDC, Gnafakis was a consultant for Hilton Worldwide where she oversaw brand advertising, graphics and identity for Curio Collection by Hilton, DoubleTree by Hilton and Embassy Suites by Hilton. Her portfolio ranges from commercial and video experience to print and digital advertising.   

“Alex is a creative storyteller, and I look forward to her perspective in telling the DC story,” said Robin McClain, vice president, marketing and communications, Destination DC. “She brings video and graphic design expertise that will inform our seasonal leisure advertising campaigns as well as convention sales and services and travel trade marketing efforts.”

A Pennsylvania native, Gnafakis currently lives in Columbia Heights.
