Boy Harsher

Boy Harsher, the Northampton, Massachusetts duo of Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, makes dark electronic music with a pulse built for the dance floor. Their sound pairs insistent drum-machine rhythms and stark, shadowy synths with Matthews’ cool, haunting vocals, balancing physical momentum with a distinctly melancholy edge. The duo’s catalog spans the early Lesser Man and Careful through the film project and soundtrack The Runner, while newer work includes GET MEAN. In their songs, the tension between hypnotic repetition and emotional unease gives the beat its pull: the music invites movement without losing its nocturnal, cinematic atmosphere.
