Chanticleer

Founded in San Francisco in 1978, Chanticleer is a professional vocal ensemble whose singers shape a remarkably broad musical world with their voices alone. Rooted in Renaissance choral music, its repertoire ranges from gospel and jazz to folk and newly commissioned works. The ensemble’s recordings of Colors of Love and Sir John Tavener’s Lamentations & Praises each earned Grammy Awards, reflecting its commitment to both contemporary composition and expressive choral tradition. Hearing these contrasting styles brought together by a single ensemble offers a close-up of vocal music’s changing colors, textures and possibilities.
