Choir! Choir! Choir!

Choir! Choir! Choir! turns a roomful of strangers into a pop-up chorus, led by Toronto-based co-founders Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman. Since launching in 2011, the group has built its participatory format around teaching an original arrangement by ear, then inviting singers and non-singers alike to perform it together—no auditions or music-reading required. Its expansive take on familiar songs has included David Bowie’s “Heroes,” sung with David Byrne, and performances alongside artists including Patti Smith and Tegan and Sara. The pleasure is in hearing individual voices gather into harmony, as listeners become part of the music rather than simply watching it.
