Leftover Salmon

Since forming in Colorado in 1989, Leftover Salmon has helped shape “jamgrass,” weaving bluegrass instrumentation into a freewheeling mix of rock, Cajun, folk and other roots sounds. Founders Vince Herman and Drew Emmitt anchor a band whose banjo, mandolin, fiddle and dobro lines can break from tight picking into open-ended improvisation. Albums such as The Nashville Sessions and Euphoria established its adventurous spirit; Grass Roots revisits early bluegrass and campground influences with reworkings of songs by Bob Dylan, David Bromberg and the Grateful Dead. The appeal lies in that lively contrast: familiar acoustic traditions one moment, a spirited genre-hopping jam the next.
