The Residents

The Residents are an experimental art-rock group whose shifting, deliberately anonymous identity has made them one of music’s most singular acts for more than five decades. Their sound twists familiar pop into uncanny shapes, moving from the jagged miniatures of Duck Stab to the imagined rituals of Eskimo and the ingenious constraint of The Commercial Album, a set of 40 songs, each about a minute long. With a catalog that treats music as theater, satire and sonic collage, The Residents invite listeners to follow unexpected turns rather than settle into familiar patterns.
