Trippie Redd, the Canton, Ohio-born rapper and singer, moves between melodic hip-hop, emo-tinged trap and R&B, using a pliable, often soaring voice as readily as his rapid-fire flow. He broke through with the mixtape A Love Letter to You and “Love Scars,” then brought that genre-blurring approach to his 2018 debut album, LIFE’S A TRIP. His catalog ranges from the Travis Scott collaboration “Dark Knight Dummo” to “Taking a Walk” and the Playboi Carti collaboration “Miss the Rage.” The contrast between vulnerable melodies and hard-hitting rap gives his music its distinctive push and pull.
