Unsane

Unsane is a New York noise-rock band led by founding guitarist and vocalist Chris Spencer, forging jagged, heavy music from distorted guitar, pounding drums and a rumbling low end. The band’s self-titled 1991 debut established its abrasive sound, while Scattered, Smothered & Covered brought the visceral “Scrape” and “Alleged”; later albums include Occupational Hazard and Visqueen. Their songs hit with a stark, unvarnished force, balancing tightly wound riffs with bursts of feedback and blunt, shouted vocals—a bracing set for listeners drawn to rock at its rawest.
