Dorothy’s journey to Oz gets a soulful, all-Black reimagining in The Wiz, the Tony-winning musical inspired by L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Its score blends soul, gospel, rock and ’70s funk, carrying Dorothy and her companions down the yellow brick road in songs including “Ease on Down the Road,” “Home” and “Everybody Rejoice.” The original Broadway production premiered in 1975 and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. With a story about finding courage, heart and a place to call home, the show makes this familiar adventure feel fresh through its distinctive music and perspective.
