National Air and Space Museum

The Museum is closed to support the effort to contain the spread of COVID-19

The Museum is closed to support the effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. A reopening date has not yet been determined; please visit the Museum's website for updates.

The National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall houses famous icons of flight: the original Wright Flyer, the Spirit of St. Louis, the Mercury Friendship 7 capsule that was piloted by John Glenn, SpaceShipOne, and Neil Armstrong's Apollo 11 spacesuit.

Note; The Museum is undergoing a large-scale, multi-year renovation that will "reimagine" all 23 galleries and public spaces. While the Museum will be open throughout the project, some galleries and spaces may be closed. The first of the new galleries are scheduled to open in 2022, with final completion of the project in 2025.

The Museum also has a second location, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, located next to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Chantilly, Virginia.
