Baltimore Symphony Orchestra - Beethovens Ninth: New Years Celebration

Beethoven’s Ninth: New Year’s Celebration brings the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra together with conductor Peter Oundjian, four vocal soloists and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society for a program crowned by Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Its finale, the “Ode to Joy,” turns a full orchestra and chorus toward a stirring vision of fellowship, giving the familiar anthem a grand, communal sweep. The program also pairs the symphony with Valerie Coleman’s “Umoja: Anthem of Unity” and Beethoven’s “Elegiac Song.” The contrast of orchestral color, solo voices and massed chorus makes this a resonant way to welcome the new year.
