Lourdes, south of France, 1858.
A poor, sickly 14-year-old girl claims she saw something—or someone—at a riverbank grotto, and the small town of Lourdes is never the same. As word spreads like wildfire, everyone from her own parents to the parish priest to a determined police commissioner tries to break her story, certain a scared child must be lying, mistaken, or dreaming. But Bernadette never wavers: “I was asked to tell you, not to convince you.” Believers hope. Sceptics mock. Crowds swell. The authorities want it to stop. And still, she won't take it back. What happens when one girl refuses to bend—and the whole world starts watching?
