Founded in 1970, Canadian Brass helped bring the brass quintet to a wide audience with performances that pair polished chamber musicianship with an inviting, conversational spirit. Its expansive repertoire moves from Renaissance and Baroque works to Scott Joplin ragtime, Gershwin, jazz and Broadway, often through inventive arrangements and new commissions. The ensemble’s more than 130 recordings include Stars & Stripes: Canadian Brass Salute America, which reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Classical chart, and Take the “A” Train, a Grammy-nominated album. The appeal lies in hearing five brass players shift effortlessly between musical worlds while making the craft feel lively and close at hand.
