Freak Slug

Freak Slug is the musical project of Manchester-born singer-songwriter Xenya Genovese, whose hazy indie pop and rock balances bedroom-made intimacy with jangling guitars, distortion and electronic flourishes. Her songs move between playful hooks and candid, sometimes sharp-edged lyrics: “Radio” and “Care” are early favorites, while the albums I Blow Out Big Candles and Amulet show her sound continuing to expand. Onstage, Genovese’s direct delivery and elastic shifts in mood give the songs room to feel both tender and unruly—and invite listeners to sing along.
