A Kramers Evening with David Guterson: Evelyn in Transit & the Tibetan Nuns Project

Award-Winning Author David Guterson on Fiction, Faith, and the Fight to Preserve Tibetan Culture at DC's Kramers

Feb 12, 2026. 7 p.m.

Join Kramerbooks & Afterwords for a special evening with acclaimed author David Guterson, best known for the award-winning novel Snow Falling on Cedars, as he discusses his newest book, Evelyn in Transit.

Guterson will explore the novel’s powerful themes alongside the real-world mission of the Tibetan Nuns Project (TNP), a nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering nuns of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and preserving Tibetan culture. The conversation will highlight the deep connection between the novel and TNP’s work to protect the people, traditions, and spiritual heritage of Tibet.

Evelyn in Transit follows two seemingly disparate journeys: Evelyn Bednarz, a restless young woman searching for meaning in America, and Tsering Lepka, a Tibetan boy destined for monastic leadership yet uncertain of his path. Their stories collide when Evelyn learns her young son may be the reincarnation of a revered Buddhist lama—forcing a life-altering decision that bridges continents, cultures, and beliefs.

In support of the Tibetan Nuns Project, $10 from every book sold at the event will be donated to TNP, up to 100 books.

Guests are invited to learn more about the novel, hear from Guterson about his writing and inspiration, and discover how literature can intersect with global cultural preservation. This event is ideal for readers interested in contemporary fiction, international culture, spirituality, and social impact.
