New York Red Bulls at DC United

New York Red Bulls and D.C. United bring one of Major League Soccer’s original rivalries to the field in the Atlantic Cup, a contest rooted in the league’s inaugural 1996 season. Their meetings have delivered decades of high-stakes East Coast clashes, including memorable playoff battles and the 2006 moment when D.C.’s Alecko Eskandarian celebrated a goal by taking a swig of Red Bull and spitting it out. The Red Bulls have claimed three Supporters’ Shields, while United won the first two MLS Cups and added a third in 1999. The history and edge between these longtime rivals give every matchup a story beyond the scoreline.
