Notes of Remembrance: Taps Across the National Mall
The Doughboy Foundation, in partnership with the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service, presents Notes of Remembrance on Monday, May 25, 2026. At 8:00 a.m., buglers will stand at 16 different memorials across the National Mall to play “Taps” in a coordinated tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States.
This 2026 edition serves as a signature event for the America 250 celebrations on “America’s Front Yard.” As the 24-note call begins, visitors are invited to pause for a unified moment of silence.
The event centers at the National World War I Memorial, where the Doughboy Foundation continues its mission of keeping faith with those who served. We are honored to stand with the Gold Star Mothers to ensure the legacy of our fallen heroes is never forgotten.
The tribute begins at 7:55 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the National World War I Memorial alongside Gold Star Mothers, followed by a simultaneous sounding of Taps at 16 memorials at 8:00 a.m. Following the 7:55 a.m. wreath laying, buglers will sound Taps simultaneously at 8:00 a.m. at the National WWI Memorial and 15 additional memorial and future memorial sites, including:
- African American Civil War Memorial
- American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial
- DC War Memorial
- Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial (future site)

"Notes of Remembrance" serves as a powerful call to pause and reflect on the supreme sacrifice made by American service members. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this year's tribute expands to include presidential memorials, honoring the Commanders in Chief who led the nation through its most defining conflicts.
No registration is required to attend, and visitors will be invited to pause for reflection.
The ceremony is free and open to the public.
