Pentatonix

Pentatonix turns the human voice into a full pop arrangement, layering close harmonies, deep bass and Kevin Olusola’s beatboxing in place of a conventional band. The Texas vocal quintet first drew wide attention after winning NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2011, then earned three Grammy Awards: for their medley “Daft Punk,” “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and their collaboration with Dolly Parton on “Jolene.” Their repertoire ranges from inventive pop reworkings to original songs such as “Can’t Sleep Love,” alongside a celebrated run of holiday albums. The appeal is in hearing familiar sounds rebuilt—rhythm, bass line and melody all made by voices.
