¡Puro Ritmo! Summer Solstice Celebration

Celebrate the Smithsonian Solstice Celebration with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino at the National Museum of American History.

Inspired by ¡Puro Ritmo! The Musical Journey of Salsa, this two-day program invites visitors to explore the rhythms, stories, and cultural connections that shaped salsa and its place in American music. Through hands-on activities, gallery tours, music, storytelling, dance, percussion, and karaoke, visitors can experience salsa as a living expression of migration, identity, innovation, and community.

Activities take place in and around the Molina Family Latino Gallery and the General Motors Learning Lounge throughout the Smithsonian Solstice Celebration weekend. The program includes learning carts, a salsa dance workshop, guided tours of ¡Puro Ritmo!, storytime, percussion circles, karaoke, and ongoing hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.

This program is presented by the National Museum of the American Latino at the National Museum of American History as part of the Smithsonian Solstice Celebration. The Smithsonian Solstice Celebration marks the start of summer with extended evening hours and programs across Smithsonian museums on the National Mall; participating museums will remain open until 11 p.m. on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20.
