Shyne

Belize-born and Brooklyn-raised, Shyne broke through with a deep, measured delivery and hard-edged East Coast hip-hop shaped by the sound of Bad Boy Records. His 2000 self-titled debut introduced tracks including “Bad Boyz,” whose dancehall vocals from Barrington Levy give the song its distinctive crossover pulse, and “Bonnie & Shyne,” another collaboration with Levy. The album also features the streetwise “That’s Gangsta.” Shyne’s catalog bridges gritty rap verses and reggae-inflected hooks, giving these early-2000s tracks a texture that still stands apart in hip-hop.
