Take a look through our telescopes while you're out and about in Washington, DC

May 07, 2026. From: 08:30 PM to 10:30 PM

Take a look through our telescopes while you’re out exploring Washington, DC. Join us outside the Museum at the corner of Independence Ave and 7th Street SW, near the silver Delta Solar sculpture, and see the wonders of the night sky.

Experienced people will help you to use different telescopes to observe a variety of things, including planets, stars, and the Moon.

Telescopes will be provided by Smithsonian and pre-approved members of local astronomy clubs. No other personal telescopes are permitted at the event.

This program coincides with a lecture inside the Museum as part of the Exploring Space lecture series. Separate reservations are needed in order to attend the lecture.

Sponsored by the Thomas W. Haas Foundation, Otto Haas Charitable Trust, The Waterman Trust, and Wyncote Foundation.
