The Washington Spirit is one of the world’s premier professional women’s soccer teams. Founded in 2012, becoming one of the founding teams in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the Spirit has a storied history, including winning the 2021 NWSL Championship, the 2025 Challenge Cup and appearing in back-to-back title games in 2024 and 2025.
The Spirit is home to some of the most talented soccer stars in the world, including Trinity Rodman, Esme Morgan, and Leicy Santos, with 16 players from 10 different countries currently playing on their National Teams, including four here in the United States.
Playing in southwest DC, the Spirit makes Audi Field in Buzzard Point, otherwise known as “Rowdy Audi” a must-see destination during game days. The Spirit has seen numerous record-breaking crowds over the past few years and became only the fourth women’s club in the world to average over 15,000 people per match in 2025.
