Washington, D.C. Welcomes NATO
NATO is a political and military alliance of 32 countries from Europe and North America. It guarantees the freedom and security of its members through collective defense, crisis management, partnerships and innovation. Once a year in a different member country, NATO hosts a summit meeting at its highest level possible - that of Heads of State and Government. NATO summit meetings provide periodic opportunities for the NATO community to discuss important issues facing the Alliance and provide strategic direction for its activities. They are often held at key moments in the Alliance's evolution and are important junctures in the Alliance's decision-making process. Summits introduce new policy, invite new members into the Alliance, launch major initiatives, and reinforce partnerships. The nation’s capital, Washington, DC, is happy to host this year’s meeting from 9-11 July 2024. The NATO Summit in Washington will mark 75 years of historic achievements, demonstrate the strength and unity of our transatlantic bond, advance the implementation of the most robust deterrence and defense plans since the end of the Cold War, and showcase NATO’s vital role in defending our future for generations to come.
