American Airlines Sell Your Way 2022 (Nov. 1-8, Washington, DC)
Attendees: Lindsay Hill, Erica Riddle, Erika Jones & Darren Gan
In partnership with American Airlines, Washington, DC is excited to welcome clients from Australia and New Zealand who have "sold their way" to the USA. Agents participated in a month-long contest to determine who could book the most trips to key destinations in the United States and were thereby entered into a drawing to attend the in-person FAM trip. Companies in attendance included Travel Seed, House of Travel New Zealand and American Airlines.


Accent on the East Trade Show (Nov. 3-8, Fairfax, VA/Washington, DC)
Attendee: Lindsay Hill
The annual trade show consists of networking events, educational seminars, tour operator appointments and regional itinerary creation. Lindsay met with 14 group tour operators.
Accent on the East FAM Tour (Nov. 6-7, Washington, DC)
Attendees: Lindsay, Erica Riddle & Jennifer Porter
As co-sponsors of the Accent on the East trade show organized by Mid-Atlantic Receptive Services, DDC welcomed adult group tour operators to a two-day FAM tour that included the Ven at Embassy Row, AC Hotel Navy Yard, Ivy City Smokehouse, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Kennedy Center, Pinstripes, the Washington National Cathedral and Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens.


Ontario Motorcoach Association (OMCA) Marketplace (Nov. 8, Virtual)
Attendee: Lindsay Hill
Lindsay held 27 virtual appointments with group tour operators based in Ontario, Canada.


International Basketball Federation World Cup Qualifying Games (Nov. 11 & 14, Washington, DC)
Attendees: Christopher Thompson & Nick Price
USA Men’s Basketball enters its fifth World Cup Qualifying window with a 7-1 record. The team faces Brazil (5-3) on Friday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. ET and Colombia (3-5) on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. Both games are at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.


National Tour Association (NTA) Travel Exchange (Nov. 13-17, Reno, NV)
Attendee: Lindsay Hill
The annual trade show consists of a day of pre-scheduled appointments for DMOs along with educational sessions and networking opportunities. Lindsay has 39 appointments and will participate in a sales mission presentation in which DDC will conduct two 20-minute presentations for tour operators along with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the Museum of the Bible. DDC will also host a client dinner on Nov. 14 at Charlie Palmer Steak.


Cape Town Inaugural Flight Celebration (Nov. 16, Washington, DC)
Attendee: Theresa Bepulsi
The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa, in collaboration with South African Tourism will host a reception in honor of United Airlines’ new route from DC to Cape Town. 


Promotion with United Airlines Ireland (Nov. 24-27, Washington, DC)

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of service between Dublin and Dulles International Airport, United Airlines partnered with DDC to create a month-long training/promotion for travel agents based in Ireland which includes information about DC, United Airlines, Enchant DC and the AC Hotel Washington DC Capitol Hill Navy Yard. Upon completion, agents were entered into a drawing to win a trip to DC with a hotel stay and tickets to Enchant. Our grand prize winner from Killiney Travel will visit DC over the Thanksgiving holiday.


Our Visitor Services team has been busy answering the following consumer questions:

  1. What attractions require reservations or the purchase of a ticket?
  2. What tour companies can handle customers who are in a wheelchair?
  3. Are there any tour companies that offer day trips to the Shenandoah Valley?
