DOMESTIC CONVENTION SALES: Promotions, Sales Calls, Trade Shows and Events

The sales team once again focused on a proactive engagement plan for client outreach, with an emphasis on personalized touchpoints, program restructuring and rebooking, and customer engagement. The team tracked over 30 presentations, virtual client sales calls and in-person meetings throughout July Highlights include:

Destination International (DI) Annual Convention
July 19-22, 2022; Toronto, Canada

Destinations International is the definitive resource for professional development and destination management. DI’s Annual meeting was an opportunity to connect peers and thought leaders from inside and outside the industry.

 

Reston Herndon Meeting Planners (RHMP) Summer Camp 2022

The annual Summer Camp was a one-day educational event and tradeshow that targeted the local Northern Virginia meeting planner community. Roundtables featured small group conversations around specific topics, case challenges and lessons learned from peers. DDC hosted a table in the industry showcase area to engage with planners in attendance and sponsored a breakout session. 
DDC targeted the following customers:

  • National Automobile Dealers Association 
  • National Contract Management Association

 

New York Sales Mission (New York PCMA Summer Social+ Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Greater New York Chapter (GNY) Kalahari Golf Outing)

DDC focused on corporate accounts and select association accounts. The team attended the New York Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA)’s second in-person networking event since COVID-19. DDC also sponsored the MPI GNY Golf Outing’s Pre-Golf reception and connected with clients at the MPI GNY Kalahari Golf Outing, the most attended MPI GNY event each year.

With a continued focus on proactive client outreach, personalized touchpoints and international bid development, the team engaged prospect accounts and tentative leads throughout the month of July. Highlights include:

United Kingdom MICE Sales Mission

DDC held seven targeted client events were held as part of a sales mission throughout London, Leicester, Manchester, Oxfordshire and Brighton in order to reach agency, corporate, association and commercial conference planners throughout the UK. DDC and our member co-op—Linder Global Events—reached over 50 customers who were inspired by the opportunities in Washington, DC for purposeful meetings and monumental incentive programs.

DDC has seen losses of more than $674 million in cancellations from 76 large-scale events and impactful groups. Out of the 76, 37 were set to actualize in 2020 to the tune of $373 million. Thirty-two 2021 events with a combined $269 million economic impact have been canceled. Seven 2022 events with a combined $32 million economic impact have been canceled. The $674 million loss does not account for meetings held inside hotels and leisure groups.
