Note: Due to the COVID-19 crisis, most planned client events and conferences scheduled through the end of March were canceled or postponed.

Convention Sales
Destination DC has seen losses of more than $273 million in cancellations from 35 large-scale events and impactful groups. Out of the 35, 32 were set to actualize in 2020 to the tune of $256 million. Three 2021 events with a combined $17 million economic impact have canceled. The $273 million loss does not account for meetings held inside hotels and leisure groups. Group cancellations are as follows:

  • International Association for Dental Research (March 18-21, 2020; 6,000 attendees; $9.1 million estimated economic impact)
  • Rock & Roll USA Marathon - CareFirst Half Marathon (March 26-28, 2020; 30,000 attendees; $13.0 million estimated economic impact)
  • SAS Global Forum 2020 (March 29-April 1, 2020; 6,000 attendees; $8.3 million estimated economic impact)
  • International Association of Privacy Professionals (April 5-8; 2,200 attendees; $1.9 million estimated economic impact)
  • Islamic Circle of North America (April 10-12, 2020; 20,000 attendees; $4.6 million estimated economic impact)
  • IMF Spring Meeting 2020 (April 15-19, 2020; 3,000 attendees; $3.3 million estimated economic impact)
  • World Live Neurovascular Conference (May 6-8, 2020; 850 attendees; $910,000 estimated economic impact)
  • American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (May 7-9, 2020; 2,000 attendees; $3 million estimated economic impact)
  • National Association of Realtors (May 12-15, 2020; 10,000 attendees; $13.5 million estimated economic impact)
  • American Urological Association (May 15-18, 2020; 16,500 attendees; $24.8 million estimated economic impact)
  • United House of Prayer May Memorial Day (May 23-24, 2020; 5,000 attendees; $1.8 million estimated economic impact)
  • Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo May 24-31, 2020; 1,500 attendees; $1.8 million estimated economic impact)
