Date Nights DC Itinerary: Downtown Delights

Walk by Robert Indiana’s famed AMOR sculpture and then hit the ice at the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden. The summer fountain-turned winter ice rink costs just $8.50 per person for ice time and only $3 to rent skates.

Enjoy tasty tapas at La Tasca. During daily happy hours (4-7pm), select tapas are just $4 and sangria pitchers are $18.

Head north to the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum (which are connected by an indoor courtyard with a soaring glass canopy) to see a portrait of satirist and Late Night host Stephen Colbert or the current exhibition,Eye Pop: The Celebrity Gaze (through July 10), which captures stars like Katy Perry, Brad Pitt and Serena Williams in a new light.

Thirsty for more sangria? Sip on some signature concoctions served by the pitcher at Chef Jose Andre’s wildly decorated, Jaleo. The Penn Quarter corner restaurant is always hopping.

Rest your head at the Marriott Metro Center, conveniently located near all the area's main attractions.
