Date Nights DC Itinerary: Gay-Borhood Living
There is no need to venture far from 17th Street for this classic-gay DC date. Start by visiting Dupont Circle – the original “home” to DC’s gay and lesbian community. Check out the nearby Chocolate Moose, owned and operated by two sisters since 1978. Products range from the sublime to the ridiculous; from handcrafted art and jewelry to seriously tacky items.
Share freshly shucked or fried oysters at gay-owned Hank’s Oyster Bar or gather for mezze at Agora, a Mediterranean fusion restaurant and bar known for its generous happy hour menu.
Just a few blocks south on 17th Street, you’ll find the Beacon Hotel, which puts a modern twist on the concept of a classic luxury hotel. The rooftop Skybar at the Beacon offers great views of downtown DC.
Your bar-hopping night includes two places you must hit. Start at JR's Bar & Grill, the truly laid-back neighborhood bar. Though it's open all week long, choice times are Sundays ($2 Skyy specials) and Mondays (show tunes). And end your night dancing at Cobalt. Open and gay every night, Cobalt is known for theme nights like its Tuesday night Flashback retro party and Thursday night Battle of the Bulge amateur underwear contest.
