Do

Head to the third floor of the National Portrait Gallery to check out the Champions exhibit, which salutes great American sports figures like Arthur Ashe and Yogi Berra though portraits, artifacts and memorabilia.

Do

Step across 7th Street and pop into the Verizon Center to watch the Washington Capitals take the ice. Home games in February are on Feb. 2, 4, 7, 16, 20, 22, 24 and 26.

Eat

Take Metro’s green line uptown to U Street for a stop at Nellie’s [need to link page]. You’ll feel right at home at this locally owned sports bar with numerous flat screen TVs, a stadium-sized screen, three separate bars and plenty of Nellie fellies.

Stay

Check in to the Marriott Marquis for a "high velocity" night.
