Hamilton de Holanda at Strathmore
Brazilian bandolinist and three-time Latin Grammy winner Hamilton de Holanda grew up participating in jam sessions on the streets of Brasilia playing choro, the Brazilian cousin of jazz. He went on to reinvent the Brazilian bandolin by adding two strings, allowing for a deeper voice on the instrument. This unique sound, combined with his fast solos, distinctive phrasing, and impressive improvisations, has led to his signature sound.
His dazzling playing and versatile style led de Holanda to be invited as the guest soloist of Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on numerous occasions, as well as playing alongside The Dave Matthews Band, Snarky Puppy, Chick Corea, Bela Fleck, Yamandu Costa, and many others.
