Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (part of SHIFT Festival of American Orchestras)
Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Classical Theatre of Harlem offer a collaborative portrait of the cultural diversity and vitality of New York City through a musical and theatrical performance of Shakespeares classic tale A Midsummer Nights Dream. The performance includes Mendelssohns timeless incidental music, arranged for chamber orchestra, in its rightful place within Shakespeares timeless play (with some modern adaptations), combining all into a singular theatrical event. Drawing on the universal theme of loves many caprices, this meditation offers a specific portrait of Harlems rich culture and celebrate this space through a blend of music, theatre, and dance.
SHIFT is co-presented by Washington Performing Arts and the Kennedy Center in cooperation with the League of American Orchestras.
