Architecture of an Asylum: St. Elizabeths 1852-2017 traces the history and future of Washington, D.C.’s, well known and influential mental health facility. Featuring film, photographs, architectural fragments, medical instruments, and an enormous three-dimensional model, the exhibition explores shifting theories about how to care for the mentally ill, as well as the later reconfiguration of the campus as a federal workplace and mixed-use urban development Presented in partnership with the US General Services Administration.
