An Evening of Dance Showcasing Black Choreographers
Kinesphere refers to the movement space surrounding the body in both stillness and motion, encompassing all directions and levels, from close proximity to the farthest reach of limbs or torso. Black Kinesphere showcases an evening of dance works by Black choreographers, including Shawn Short, DDT Resident Choreographer Kareem B. Goodwin, Kameron N. Saunders, Kevin McEwen of Kafago NYC, DMV’s Marcus Isaiah, and Shawn Rawls of Emotional Physical Theatre NYC, featuring contemporary and classical dance forms. The program includes "Don’t Look Back" (2025), inspired by comic book battles and performed to the Wonder Woman Theme by cellist Tina Guo, blending contemporary pointe work with dynamic male danseur physicality. "Unsettled" (2018) by Kameron N. Saunders explores human wit and discernment through contemporary pointe ballet set to Mikael Karlsson’s composition. "12×6" (2016) by Shawn Short, inspired by "12 Angry Men" and "Six Degrees of Separation," examines personal connections through five sections reflecting our senses, with choreography set to music by Phillip Glass, Ezio Bosso, and Patrick O’Hearn, portraying interactions of four strangers in urban life. This show is good for all ages.
