Candlelight Tour

Discover how those who lived and worked at Tudor Place celebrated Christmas in 1880 through this special evening program.

Now - Dec 15, 2022. 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. | 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

In 1880, the five children of Martha and Dr. Armistead Peter celebrated the Christmas season with their grandmother, Britannia W. Kennon. Those who worked at Tudor Place, including John Luckett and Maggie Carraher, marked the holiday with their families and traditions as well.

Discover presents, games and food these families enjoyed. Learn how class and ethnicity influenced the ways in which DC residents experienced the holiday season. Partake in light, period-appropriate refreshments and complete a holiday craft. Afterwards, see seasonal decorations and rarely-seen decorative objects inspired by the celebrations of those who lived and worked here during a guided tour of the historic house.

Recommended for adults and children ages 10 and up.
